“The story of the first descent of Meteorite is almost as incredible as the line itself. The huge north-facing ramp that drops directly off the summit is one of North America’s most eye-catching lines. For many Chugach skiers this is the descent of a lifetime.” (FCSDofNA)
“We were pretty much just ski mountaineering in the ‘80s and early ‘90s, and then the heli-ski craze came along led by the Valdez scene and everyone started riding choppers to big peaks. But it’s gone full circle and is coming back to ski-mountaineering again.”
North of Pemberton, BC lies a big, daunting and dangerous peak called Joffre. In a project filled with many intimidating lines, Joffre presents the first fear inducing challenge of the season. Low snow and sketchy steeps are met with a nearly tragic ending that teaches us all that bad things can happen in the mountains.
